Women’s Foundation of Alabama Appoints Sarah Wilson as Vice President of External and Internal Affairs

ALABAMA — [Tuesday, December 9, 2025] The Women’s Foundation of Alabama has named Sarah Wilson as its new Vice President of External and Internal Affairs. Wilson is the first vice president hired under President and CEO Kimberly L. Jackson and joins the organization at a pivotal moment following Unleashed 2025, where Jackson unveiled her vision for expanding the Foundation’s statewide leadership and impact.

Wilson brings more than a decade of experience advancing economic mobility, workforce innovation, and family-centered strategies. Most recently, she served as Deputy Director of Innovation and Economic Opportunity for the City of Birmingham, where she secured more than $30 million in competitive federal funding and guided major regional initiatives focused on workforce pipelines, healthcare careers, childcare access, and entrepreneurship.

Her leadership included the Birmingham Region Health Partnership, a $10.8 million Good Jobs Challenge initiative, and the region’s successful bid for a $20 million Recompete award, making Birmingham the only U.S. city to earn both distinctions. These efforts launched Reinvest Birmingham, a citywide initiative designed to train 2,500 residents and strengthen economic infrastructure for workers and families.

Wilson also led programs that expanded maternal health supports, strengthened early childhood care, and informed national conversations on family economic security, including Alabama’s guaranteed income pilot for single mothers, Embrace Mothers.

“Sarah’s leadership strategically aligns with where we are headed as a Foundation,” said President and CEO Kimberly L. Jackson. “With a proven track record, she brings the strategic insight and collaborative approach needed to advance economic opportunity for women and families across Alabama.”

Wilson is an alumna of the Foundation’s Women’s Policy Institute and has held leadership roles with YMCA associations in Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Birmingham. She holds a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Development from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a bachelor’s degree from Loras College, and she now lives in Birmingham with her two children.

Women’s Foundation of Alabama is a community-driven foundation impacting the world around us by accelerating economic opportunity for women. We envision a society where power and possibility are not limited by gender, race, or place. Founded as a regional women’s fund in 1996, Women’s Foundation of Alabama is the state’s only public women’s foundation applying a gender lens to grantmaking, research, and advocacy.
