Strategic Grantmaking Initiatives
Grantmaking Initiatives
To address critical issues facing women and families in our state, Women’s Foundation of Alabama has identified strategic initiatives focused on workforce development and childcare. With dedicated funding from federal, state and local partners, we work alongside our grantees and provide both financial and programmatic support. Throughout the year, we accept applications for the following initiatives as funding is available.
Advancing Alabama Childcare Accelerator: Designed to address the supply care gap in Alabama, Women’s Foundation of Alabama’s Advancing Alabama Childcare Accelerator provides training, coaching and funding to support child care business owners.
Good Jobs Challenge: The City of Birmingham was awarded $10.8 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) Good Jobs Challenge grant to develop the Birmingham Region Health Partnership (BRHP), a healthcare workforce training program designed to build a pipeline of skilled healthcare and digital health workers prepared to meet the demands of regional industry. The goal of the Good Jobs Challenge is to train 1,000 jobseekers in high-quality, in-demand healthcare jobs.
As a sub-awardee of the Good Jobs Challenge, Women’s Foundation of Alabama makes grants to organizations in central Alabama to provide job training and success coaching as part of the Good Jobs Challenge.
2-Gen Community College Grants: One of the foundation’s hallmark projects. Women’s Foundation of Alabama makes grants to community colleges across Alabama implementing our 2-Gen Model through cohorts designed to help women earn credentials that lead to high paying jobs. Funding addresses common barriers to employment for women, including child care, transportation, and wrap around services.
