365 Days of Expansion: 2022 In Review
One year ago, we reached a mission-critical moment.
Amidst widespread recovery from COVID-19 and a bourgeoning call to change the economic paradigm for more women and girls in our state, our organization made a pivotal shift. We formally became Women’s Foundation of Alabama, expanding our reach to mobilize more life-enhancing resources and advance gender equity statewide.
What a landmark year 2022 has been – colored by new communities, deeper alliances, and catalytic change inclusive of all women. See video recap for highlights. To put these transformational strides into perspective:
We moved more than $700,000 dollars to women-serving organizations in 21 counties and expanded our grantmaking infrastructure statewide by launching two community-led Giving Circles.
We produced our state’s first-ever Economic Impact Study on Women, Clearing the Path – a landmark report that identified the critical influence women have on the economy, and now serves as a roadmap for businesses, government, and civic leaders.
We fueled women-led solutions through our Women’s Policy Institute, graduating our third cohort of grassroots leaders – champions equipped with expert training to spearhead public-policy change in their own backyards.
We were appointed to lead Alabama Legislature’s Workforce and Wage Gap Task Force, which steered policy recommendations to address women’s labor force participation and age-old wage disparities.
And we shaped women-focused policy, securing four significant wins in the Alabama legislature, including measures to expand access to maternal healthcare, address the work and wage gap, improve the dignity and safety of incarcerated women during pregnancy, combat period poverty by funding feminine products for students in Title I schools, and advance a multi-million-dollar investment in quality childcare.
This level of impact wouldn’t have been possible without your support. But to do more, we need more. We need you.
We hope you’ll join us in accelerating even more economic opportunities for women and girls in 2023. Consider making a year-end-gift today.
