Board Reflections: Racial Injustice and the Global Pandemic
Nonprofit professional brings three decades of experience to fundraising helm
The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham announced today the hiring of Stephanie Alexander Maxwell, M.A., CFRE as Vice President, Development.

Stephanie brings with her thirty years of experience in nonprofit fundraising from a variety of sectors, including education, social services, health care, as well as religious orders. Having served in multiple executive-level positions throughout her career, Stephanie served most recently as Director of Development and External Relations at Woodlawn Foundation. Prior to her tenure at Woodlawn, she led the Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation as Executive Director.
Stephanie’s background encompasses recruitment, orientation, and training of volunteers at all development levels including board leadership, annual giving, capital campaigns, and event planning. Through her experience she has coached both organization volunteers and staff to ensure their success in fulfilling each mission.
“The Women’s Fund’s efforts to create long-lasting, systemic change for women through philanthropy, research, and advocacy are invaluable for our region and state,” explained Stephanie. “As a professional fundraiser, connecting people to their passion and helping them create a legacy of philanthropy a privilege. While I have supported The Women’s Fund previously as a community member, I am thrilled to now contribute my professional talents in this way.”
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Stephanie earned her B.A. in general studies/journalism from Southeastern Louisiana University and her M.A. in philanthropy and development from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. She received status as a Certified Fundraising Executive in 2001.
Stephanie is a current member and Past President of the Alabama Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is the former Leadership Industry Council Ambassador for the State of Alabama for the National School Foundations Association and past member of the City of Mountain Brook Editorial Board and Mountain Brook Marching Band Board.
Stephanie is the proud mother of three adoring children and calls Mountain Brook home. She will begin her role as Vice President, Development on June 23, 2020.
