Dr. Cathy J. Randall, Chairman of the Board for Pettus Randall Holdings, LLC, joins The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham’s board of directors

Dr. Cathy J. Randall, Chairman of the Board of Pettus Randall Holdings, LLC, began her term as board member for The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham on January 1, 2020. Cathy, a Birmingham native and Tuscaloosa resident, is a longtime civic leader and the former Director of the University Honors Programs at The University of Alabama, and a former news anchor at CBS-affiliate WCFT-TV.

“The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham strives to elevate and amplify women’s voices, and we are incredibly fortunate to welcome Dr. Randall to our board as she is a well-established voice in the state,” said Tracey Morant Adams, Board Chair for The Women’s Fund. “Cathy’s passion for community service and her experience in building a better Alabama will be a tremendous asset for the organization.”

Cathy has been a dedicated supporter for an impressive and extensive group of organizations throughout her life, including as Immediate Past Chairman of the Alabama Academy of Honor and president of the Boards of Directors of the American Village, the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame, and the David Mathews Center of Civic Life, as well as Director of Alabama Girls State.

As the Director of The University of Alabama’s Computer-Based Honors Program for 25 years (1980-2004), Cathy was instrumental in advancing its status to a nationally recognized undergraduate research program. Renamed the Catherine J. Randall Research Scholars Program in 2017, the program pairs academically elite students with leading research professors and cutting-edge computing technology to complete scholarly research projects in any field of study.

Her strategic and effective leadership has also earned Cathy a lengthy list of accolades and honors, including The University of Alabama’s Living Legend Award in 2007; membership in the Alabama Academy of Honor, which includes 100 outstanding living Alabamians; and the City of Tuscaloosa’s 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award for Women of Distinction. She was also named one of the 31 women graduates of the century by The University of Alabama.

Cathy is a graduate of The University of Alabama, from which she earned two Ph.D. degrees, and a member of Christ Episcopal Church. She is the widow of H. Pettus Randall, III, and mother of Jaynie Rogers Randall Lilley, Kate Randall Danella, and H. Pettus Randall IV.
